I recently had the chance to explore Madison, a city I’ve never visited. I had the privilege of staying at The Madison Concourse Hotel and Governor’s Club for the weekend and I thought I’d share my honest opinion about the hotel as well as the city.
Madison is the capital of Wisconsin and is the second largest city in the state. I was surprised at how clean and pretty the city was.
Though it is known for being a college town, Madison was pretty quiet my weekend away and I enjoyed taking in the unique sights and sounds. I also came across a bubble tea shop and as it is one of my favorite things to drink, I was delighted.
Some cool attractions in the Madison area included a tour of the Capitol building, exploring local shops and eateries, exploring neighboring cheese shops, and a visit to the National Mustard Museum.
The Madison Concourse Hotel and Governor’s Club sits next to the Capitol building — it’s literally a few steps away. It’s located in the heart of Madison and visitors can pretty much literally walk to any major point of interest. Guests will have quick access to a variety of options for shopping, dining and a night out on the town. Myself and my guest stayed in a room in the Governor’s Club (a private key-access) on the 14th floor. We had a great view of the lake and enjoyed benefits such as a large screen TV, complimentary bottled water, local calls, terrycloth robes, a compact refrigerator and nice room decor including granite top furniture.
Now about the bed … according to the website, the bedding comes from Dayton Street Comfort Collection.
I am being completely honest when I say it probably was the best hotel bed I’ve ever slept in, it was amazing. As cheesy as it may sound, it was like sleeping on a slightly firm cloud.
Another perk to staying in one of the Governor’s Club rooms was the complimentary top-shelf cocktails, hors d’ oeuvres and desserts served in the Governor’s Club Lounge from 4:30 to 10:30 p.m. The lounge is a little small so guests may want to get there early and grab a spot if they wish to have a few drinks. We went around 6 p.m. and managed to find a table. We enjoyed a few appetizers and cocktails before heading out to dinner.
In addition, the Governor’s Club Lounge also serves a complimentary breakfast to Club guests.
What else did I enjoy about the hotel?
Staff members were very friendly and helpful. The lobby was beautiful and so was the pool area — one of the cleanest hotel pools I’ve ever seen. The pool area featured a carpeted section with tables and lounge chairs, the main pool, a hot tub, a gym, and a sauna.
I had a wonderful time exploring Madison Concourse Hotel and the surrounding area and I want to thank staff members, Joan Herzing in particular, for a wonderful weekend.
Madison was full of pleasant surprises and I’d love to go back again one day soon.
